The Beauty in Eating Right

Can your diet really help put you in a good mood?

While certain diets or foods may not ease depression (or put you instantly in a better mood), they certainly are part of a process to an overall positive and happier mood.
Basically the science of food’s effect on mood is based on Dietary changes and can bring about changes in our brain structure (chemically and physiologically), which can lead to altered /happier behavior.

The connection between carbohydrates and mood is all about tryptophan, a nonessential amino acid. As more tryptophan enters the brain, more serotonin is synthesized in the brain, and mood tends to improve. Serotonin, known as a mood regulator, is made naturally in the brain from tryptophan with some help from the B vitamins. Too much of Science jargon I guess…

So…like I said in my last post…I’ve been more upbeat in the rhythm of life with my new healthy eating habit.

I have a more positive outlook to life and and feel generally happier.

Scientists have even been able to proof that healthy eating patterns are associated with positive health outcomes and general wellbeing.
Truth be told, I can’t even wrap my head around half the things I just wrote…but for me the satisfaction and happiness starts from the meal preparation. I LOVE A colorful meal, and the thought of having to concoct something with almost all the colors of the rainbow…and is also tasty of course, makes me anticipate and look forward to eating.

Do you get satisfaction from eating healthy, if yes…what are your favorite home cooked meals?

The Journey Continues…

I’m totally loving the feeling of eating healthy.

Before you go judging that I’ve barely got started…well guess the feeling is almost instant.

It’s intoxicating…I feel happy, more than I have in a while, I feel positive…maybe it’s because I’m just getting started!
The rich flavors of a healthy meal/smoothie cannot be compared to any.

Had a Tropical smoothie yesterday…#thats the name I’m sticking with 😜…it tasted absolutely divine!!!

Papaya, Watermelon, Pineapple. And the ginger just gave my tastebuds the right kick!!!

And the color…absolutely beautiful! It had this tropical rhythm to it and I felt like I was in the Bahamas.😜😜🙈

There is nothing that can be compared…my tastebuds are still thanking me🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’d certainly be trying out more smoothie recipes….

And then I went for boiled egg and coffee for breakfast!!! I can only say…I’m so ready to take on the day!!!

The Journey to A Healthier Me 2!

No one said it would be easy…

Finding Nigerian foods to achieve my aim is harder than I thought it would be.
There are a lot of weight loss campaign out there and it’s difficult to choose which one to settle for and try out.

One thing is for sure though,

I ain’t giving up on my personal health challenge!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
The diet plan that seems to appeal most to me is the Keto Diet…but how do I even go about it?

Where do I start from??
I’ve tried reading online what it’s all about; a low carb diet that’s high in Fat and proteins!!!

That’s harder to formulate than it sounds!!!

Anyways, my complete meal today started out with; Warm Lemon/Lime water. Then I had a caffeinated-Banana smoothie around mid-day. It comprised of just three ingredients; 3medium Banana (frozen), 1tsp of Instant coffee, 1/2 Tbsp of Shaved/diced ginger and of course water.

At about 3pm I had a dish of locally prepared vegetable soup (Afang, complete with the periwinkle in its shell). Then I opted for fried potatoe and tomatoe sauce with beef as a late lunch snack.

I ain’t even counting calories I ain’t going to lie but…that’s how much I could get around to do. (In between all this I had three cups of coffee) Well…so that’s my attempt for the first day. I know I’ve got to up my game but, it’s sure difficult when you still trying to figure out how to go about all this. I ain’t going to relent though…it can only get better (If I should pat myself on the back).

Anyways, just thought to share this. If there’s anyone out there with pointers in the right direction…it sure would help. I’d appreciate your comments.

The phone rings…it was a call from her mother, cringing with fear as she slowly answers the phone and puts the receiver to her ears.

MUM: Hello Nkem.

NKEM: Hello, Mummy Good evening.

MUM: Good evening my dear how are you doing?

NKEM: I’m fine oh. And you.

MUM: I’m where you people left me Nah. You have become so busy and no longer keep in touch with your aged mother.

NKEM: Mummy it’s not like that, just had quite a lot on my plate lately.

MUM: OK oh. I’ve heard. Just don’t forget that you should have a personal life too ooo. You work too hard and I’ve barely heard you say you are going out with friends or something. It’s always work, work, and work. You are not getting any younger o. All your mates are already married and taking care of their own homes you are busy working, telling yourself you are progressing in your career. Nobody is interested in that if you don’t have a man to call your own, nobody would respect you; regardless of the position you have attained in your company if you are not married. I’m telling you as a mother. Go and find a man and stop all this nonsense, you are not getting any younger and the earlier you realize this the better for you… (Cuts the phone)

Nkem wept uncontrollably as that had become her life since she turned 30 and still hadn’t been able to get a man. It’s not like she wasn’t open enough to the possibility of marriage, it’s just that the men that come her way these days were either not serious or married and wanted her for a mistress. She was tired of married men telling her how decent and well-mannered she was, how they wish they weren’t married because then they wouldn’t have hesitated to make her their wife or how any man who would marry her would be the luckiest. She was tired of having these kind of toxic phone conversations with her mum or other siblings. What was she to do? She didn’t want to be desperate and she sure couldn’t take anymore of all these pressure of marriage…
